There is some useful information, but I hate paying the price of a new book for info that is 20 years old. There are more updated books out there on self-protection. I would suggest buying a used copy somewhere.
Rating: 5 Stars. He covers an enormous amount of material in this book and like everything Massad writes, it is well-researched and comprehensive. Though I agree with a few of the previous reviewers about some of the material being outdated; nevertheless, this is still an excellent guide for anyone seeking simple and effective methods to protect themselves. Joseph J. The author is a well-known respected firearms and use of force expert, which makes the information in this text valid and practical. In conclusion, this book is still the one I recommend to anyone interested in self-protection. Like most people, I thought I knew a bit about self protection.that is, until I read this book. It taught me how little I knew and completely blew apart the flawed common myths about what to do if you are confronted with a bad situation. If you or someone you know is thinking of "carrying" then do yourself a favor and read this book before you end up behind bars wondering how the hell you got there.
Once you have read in the gravest extreme you pretty much have read this one as well. I respect Mr ayoob's opinion But I don't agree with everything he says I think you would be better served with col jeff cooper or wiley clapp
Though published 26 years ago, all the informaiton is as relevant as if written one year ago. There is a lot of informaiton in the book, so take it slowly so it can all sink in. As usual, Massad has done a masterful job of presenting factual information about protecting yourself from those that would take advantage of you. I have yet to read anything by Massad that I would argue with in any way.
